Allergies occur when the immune system reacts to substances that are normally harmless, such as pollen, pet dander, certain foods, or medications. These immune responses can lead to a variety of symptoms, ranging from mild discomfort to severe reactions.
Mediwell Allergy Clinic provides world-class treatment and care for allergies and allergy-related complications from our highly qualified medical team whose primary focus is premium patient care.
At our clinics, you will have a consultation with a doctor who will discuss treatment options and testing options with you.
What tests are done at Mediwell allergy clinic?
This is the most common form of allergy testing. During a skin prick test, small amounts of common allergens are applied to the skin, usually on the forearm or back. The skin is then pricked or scratched to allow the allergen to enter the immune system. If a person is allergic to a particular allergen, a small raised bump or hive will appear at the test site within about 15 to 20 minutes.
A blood test, known as specific IgE (immunoglobulin E) testing or allergen-specific testing, can also be used to identify allergies. This involves taking a blood sample from the person and testing it in a laboratory to measure the level of specific IgE antibodies present in the blood. IgE antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to allergens. Higher levels of specific IgE antibodies for a particular allergen indicate an allergy to that substance.
ALEX® Allergy Explorer rapidly tests for up to 300 allergens simultaneously and providing a comprehensive analysis, from a very small sample volume. The panel of allergens includes pollen, mites, cat and dog fur, insect venoms, molds and yeasts, food and latex, supplemented with total IgE.
